Flea allergy dermatitis is one of the most common forms of allergy found in cats and dog skins as fleas infest their coat. Sometimes, the saliva of the fleas is the allergen and causes skin disorders and the animals have allergic symptoms of itchiness, sores on the skin, hair loss and ‘eczematous skin rash’. This is one of the causes for dog allergy and cat allergy.
Dog allergy can be caused by various allergens. The most common being from the saliva of fleas. The fleabites are a major source of irritation to the dogs and as a result the dogs have symptoms of itchiness, to the point of the skin becoming sore. In severe cases these become infected, and turn into secondary skin infections. It is very important in grooming the pet regularly, and bathing it, as this will keep the fleas at bay to some extent. Anti flea shampoos are available all over. Besides, fleas, even ticks, lice, and mites can be a source of allergens in dog allergy. Proper medication is important in the treatment of fleas, ticks, mites and lice. Lots of products are available, in the treatment and prevention of flea allergy dermatitis or any other dog allergy at any vets clinic.
